Special Session on "Mobile Multimedia Communications"
3-5 October 2001, Cannes, France
By expanding and creating a vast variety of services from voice, email, short messages, Internet access, m-commerce, to mobile video conferencing, streaming video and audio, the so called 3G or Third Generation wireless systems will bring true mobile multimedia experiences to mobile customers. However, due to constant changing environments, limited battery resource and diverse data types, Mobile Multimedia implies considerable challenges to operators, infrastructure builders in terms of ensuring fast, reliable services and accommodating the quick growing global customer needs.
This special session is aimed at stimulating technical exchanges in the emerging and important field of Mobile Multimedia Communications. It will provide an effective forum for exploratory research contributions and fundamental advances, and bring together researchers and practitioners with a common interest in Mobile Multimedia Communications. Prospective works should focus either on system approaches where mobile computing and multimedia signal processing can be gracefully combined to achieve significant improvements, or on individual important mechanisms that are highly related to Mobile Multimedia.
